Pondicherry

The weekend was a busy one.  On Saturday we went to Pondicherry.  It is a place by the beach.  So I saw the Indian Ocean.  It took about 2 hours to get there by van.  It was fun to look at all of the different villages as we drove by.  At one point we passed by a truck that was full of people and more people riding on top.  Our driver slowed so we could take a picture and I think the people in the truck felt like celebraties, because it is actually a fairly common sight around here.  They were waving and smiling at all the cameras.  It was a very tourist moment.   I have to get the photo from someone else, so I will have to post it later.
One interesting  fact I learned is that they put dummies up on unfinished buildings.  The reason for this is because they believe that evil spirits will come into an unfinished building and stay trapped inside.  The dummies are to scare the evil spirits away.
When we got there we wondered around the town.  We went to the temple there where an elephant will give you a blessing by tapping you on the head with his trunk.  We got there right as the elephant was going in for lunch, so I didn't get the "blessing" but I did take a picture.

Then we went and found lunch in the french quaters of the town so we could have something other than rice and curry.  I pizza, but it still did not have the regualar tomoto sauce so it was a little spicy.  Oh well, it did taste good.  We also got some delicious desserts.  My favorite being the mango mousse.
After eating we went shopping and then back on the van to head home.
That night we snuggled with the kids as we all watched a movie.  We then crashed as we had to leave at 7 am in the next morning to be ready for the 2 hour drive to church the next day.
